Tribological coatings are applied to reduce friction and increase wear resistance on items that will be in moving contact with other surfaces. Mustang has designed tribological coating equipment to impart hard wear resistant PVD coatings, such as DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN), Titanium Nitride (TiN) and Chromium Nitride or Chrome Nitride (CrN) coatings, for tools, medical instruments and implants, and automotive parts.

The Mustang Vacuum Systems Tribo Series utilizes patented deposition sources and high speed pumping chamber design to create high rate, high reliability, and high throughput deposition systems for the reactive deposition of films at controlled substrate temperature. Using a modular, multiple source arrangement, Mustang’s PVD systems can be supplied utilizing multiple Magnetron Sputtering (planar unbalanced, planar balanced or rotating), large area planar HIPIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) or Steered Cathodic Arc Evaporation sources. Parts to be coated are easily & rapidly mounted onto a variable rotation frequency, planetary turntable connected to a bias power supply which provides controlled low energy ion assisted growth capability and enhanced energetic ion bombardment of the substrate during pre-coating etch phases of the process.
